Personal Advocacy

Once your providers have the information needed to make informed decisions, they will create your customized treatment plan.

Your involvement in designing and following the plan is crucial to progress and recovery. Don’t hesitate to ask for direction or guidance throughout the process. Your providers are equipped to make your plan as effective as possible.

The treatment plan is your road map to a destination of better health. As with any journey, the route may change as detours are encountered along the way, but ultimately your counselor’s goal is to help you meet your objectives.

Enhancing Effective Treatment

According to the National Mental Health Consumer's Self-Help Clearinghouse treatment success depends on three key factors:

  • Your attitudes about yourself, about treatment and about involving and investing your energies into the treatment processes
  • Your skills in problem solving and communicating needs
  • Your knowledge of the mental health system

These web pages are designed to increase your knowledge about the system – the network of services and professionals providing treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues.
